Sugar Sweet Beauty

December 10th, 2008

Create inexpensive beauty products using the main ingredient, sugar.
In the self-care and beauty industry, the latest craze is to include sugar in skin care products. If you search the internet you will find everything from sugar body scrubs to sugar hair removers. The prices can range from $8.00 to $35.00 for each product. How’s that for a product in which the main ingredient can cost you a no more that $3.00 for a 5 pound bag!

To enjoy all of the benefits of a sugar based product without shelling out the big bucks, trys these recipes:

Orange Cream Sugar Body Scrub

This recipe is great to remove dead skin and give your skin a healthy glow. The sugar contains glycolic acid and the cream is a source for lactic acid. Avoid irritated or broken skin areas.

Ingredients: cup sugar, 2 TBSP cream or whole milk, 5 drops orange oil, and 1 cup olive, jojoba, or almond oil

Mix sugar, oil and cream together. Add orange oil after main ingredients are completely mixed.

Apply to your body by starting at the feet and working your way up. Massage in a circular motion and leave it on for 10-15 minutes, then shower it off. This recipe is enough to make one full body treatment.

Lemon Head Sugar Body Scrub

This recipe is both cleansing and detoxifying. Lemon is very detoxifying to the body and will also help brighten the skin.

Ingredients: cup sugar, 10 drops lemon oil, or a lemon freshly squeezed, and 1 cup olive, jojoba, or almond oil

Mix all ingredients together. Apply to your body by starting at the feet and working your way up. Massage in a circular motion, then shower it off. This recipe is enough to make one full body treatment.

Facial Cleanser

Ingredients:

white or brown sugar, your favorite facial cleanser, witch hazel, and water

Using your favorite daily facial soap, an easy, inexpensive facial scrub can be made by adding sugar. Simply add a teaspoon of either white sugar or brown sugar and massage it gently on your facial skin. Rinse with cool water and spritz your face with a witch hazel and water mixture.

Sugar is a natural and inexpensive way to include alpha-hydroxy acids in your skincare program. It produces glycolic acid, an alpha hydroxy acid, which is included in many skincare product lines. Today’s pricey beauty products that include sugar or alpha hydroxy acid, can be created inexpensively right at your kitchen table. You can experience all of the benefits without the inflated price.

Online Poker – Keeping Your Attention on the Cards

December 9th, 2008

Let’s face it, there are tons of distractions that can cost your dearly when playing online poker. You have the advertisements, the promotions, and the ability to play at several different tables at the same time.

Now for some, multitasking comes naturally, and they may be able to handle more than one table at a time. But for others, who focus on all the nuances, playing tables greater than one, can prove a costly mistake.

Here’s a scenario. Let’s say you’ve been playing three poker tables for about an hour. Well it comes down to a sticky situation where you have a high flush, but your opponent may have the nuts. You’ve been clicking between windows so fast, you’ve never really had a chance to get to know the intracacies of your opponent’s betting patterns. So you decide to go with gut instinct, go all in, and lose to the nut flush.

Now, if you’d been concentration on just that table, then you’d have a good idea of how the bets correlated to the true stength of his hand. Maybe you would have noticed that the standard bet of 500 was throw out by your opponent when he had a strong hand, and he always, repeated ALWAYS bets 1500 when he has the nuts. And you’d see that he bet 1500, and you’d see that you need to lay this hand down.

I know, I know, an over simplification to be sure, but it’s one of those traps that can cost a player who’s playing for some serious change, a huge percentage of their stack.

Let’s also not forget the other distractions such as other web pages, TV, radio, or the myriad other distractions that can occupy your attention.

Now this is not to prescribe that there is one correct way to play online poker. I’m only giving you the rundown on the importance of paying attention online where so many of your physical tells are masked due to the virtual reality.

And of course, it also depends on what you’re bringing to the game. If you’re just playing for playing’s sake, then by all means, play how you want. But if you’ve got some cash on the line, then you owe it to yourself to play your best regardless of whether it’s online or at a b&m table.

4 Things You Shouldn’t Do When You’re Buying A Home

December 8th, 2008

1. Don’t Make a Major Purchase

You’ve just found out your credit is A . That’s great news, because a new car would look fantastic in the driveway of your new home. But hang on–if you are depending on a mortgage to move in, you’d best wait until after closing to buy the car.

An increase in your debt to income ratio reduces the amount of monthly income available for your mortgage payment. If you tack on a higher car payment, the bank might decide you cannot afford the home.

Using cash to purchase the car could also create a problem, since banks consider cash reserves when approving your mortgage. If you make a major purchase before closing, talk to your loan officer before you do it.

2. Don’t Change Jobs Unless It’s Necessary

Lenders like to see a consistent job history. They aren’t usually as nervous if you change jobs within the same field, but it’s better to stay put until the keys to the house are in your hand.

3. Don’t Give an Earnest Money Deposit Directly to a For Sale By Owner Seller

Your good faith deposit should go into a trust account. Some for sale by owner sellers don’t understand that funds are to be applied to your expenses at closing.

There are incidents about sellers who spent the deposit money prior to closing. When the transactions didn’t take place for valid reasons–such as financing or repair issues, the buyers had to fight for a refund.

Find an attorney or other neutral party who will hold the deposit for you until closing day and make sure your contract dictates what happens to the funds if the transaction doesn’t close.

4. Don’t Let Your Emotions Take Over

Keep a cool head during the entire home buying process, especially during and after an inspection. Be realistic. No home is perfect, especially older homes. It’s not unusual for new owners to take care of some repairs themselves. Don’t let the seller’s refusal to do a small repair kill the deal on a home you truly love.

On the other hand, don’t fall so much in love with the house that you’ll buy no matter what needs to be done–unless you’re absolutely sure you can handle it emotionally and financially. Decide what type of repairs you can realistically tackle, then stick with the decision.

Bridge Your Way To A Better Life

December 7th, 2008

There are occasions when we all put off making a decision for one reason
or another. We must accept that where we are and who we are today is the direct result of all of our previous decisions or lack of decision making. Accepting that you are responsible is not always pleasant but it is reality. It becomes easier to be a person who is satisfied with who you are which leads to self-confidence and self-respect. This frees
your mind to be more creative, enjoy your days more, experience more positive relationships, and be able to share more with others. Your eyes will be open to more opportunities. You will be more open to accepting unexpected turns of events in your life. You will have more energy and enthusiasm. Your perspective on life will be ever changing within and outside your primary focus areas – take advantage of these chances to expand your mind.

I listened to a speech years ago which used the acronym of BRIDGE to describe a broader way of living your life. I hope it reminds you of the importance of living today so your memories of yesterday are good and your hopes for tomorrow’s are ones that have a positive outlook.

BREAKAWAY
Release old concepts that someone else will or must determine your values.
Breakaway from the past and old expectations. Start taking complete responsibility for your actions and destiny.

RISK TAKING
Change keeps us excited about life because of the challenges involved. While there can be fear in taking risks, there is also joy and satisfaction to be gained. Putting yourself on the line gives you courage and respect for your abilities.

IMAGINATION
Use it to be creative with today’s tasks and future goals. Consider your natural talents and skills to make decisions based on what
you want for yourself.
You can make the future just about anything you want it to be by today’s
choices.

DARE TO DREAM and DESIRE If you want something strongly enough, you will find a way to make it happen.
Belief in yourself, ask for help, networking, and setting goals are methods to use.
Make a “story board” with pictures or sayings to remind yourself of what
you’re aiming for.

GET GOING.
Repetition causes boredom which leads to fatigue which inhibits growth and enthusiasm.
If we don’t move forward, we don’t get anywhere new. We can’t learn anything from experiences we aren’t having.

ENERGY, ENTHUSIASM, and EXCITEMENT Doesn’t the day seem to go by easier when you have a positive outlook? Achieving what you want in your life is more obtainable with these attributes and attitudes. As bad as any single day might seem, find something to be grateful for in it.
If nothing else, you’re still alive to try again tomorrow.

Using the BRIDGE system, your self-confidence and self-esteem will naturally increase.
Others will want to know your “secret”. Success will be more likely to become a major force in your life.

Frugal Kitchen Spruce Ups

Frugal Kitchen Spruce Ups
By Kathleen Wilson

Most of us spend a good deal of time in our kitchens these days, and it’s not just for cooking. More homes are being built with the kitchen as the hub of the home, and even if you’re on a tight budget, that shouldn’t stop you from making it a pleasant and personal place to be!

If your cabinets are in need of a total overhaul, consider painting them. Nothing changes the look of a kitchen faster! Visit the library for info on faux finishing, or go to www.paintedhouse.com or www.fauxlikeapro.com, and turn a simple paint job into a one of a kind kitchen.

If you don’t want the hard work that goes into total repainting, consider removing a cupboard door to make a display cabinet. Paint the entire interior of the cabinet a light or bright accent color, and put your prettiest on display. Or have someone good with power tools cut out the center panels of the doors, then shirr fabric over the inside to hide the contents of the cupboard…secure with a staple gun or Velcro tape.

Pick up inexpensive plate hangers from the hardware store and hang the saucers from your good china around the backsplash, or as a border. Don’t have any china? Visit garage sales and thrift stores this weekend to pick up a bunch of sweet little plates for a song. (No, they don’t have to match, or be fancy!)

Hang tea towels on the diagonal over your curtain rod for a fresh summer valance, and save some extra to stitch up into potholders and placemats.

Make a floor cloth to perk up your tired floors from a piece of remnant vinyl flooring you get at a home improvement center for just a few dollars. Turn the piece over to the backside, and give it a coat or two of good primer, then a coat of any basecoat color. Then use masking tape, stencils, stamps, sponges or freehand painting to impart a design that fits your room. Be sure to seal it with a couple of coats of water based polyurethane, and it will wipe clean for years! This is a great way to customize your kitchen for little money…lets face it, rugs are expensive, impossible to keep clean in a kitchen, and are usually the same old boring thing. This is also a great way to cover an aging or damaged floor, as you can make the floorcloth to whatever size you need.

Save empty bottles and fill with colored water to set on the windowsills, or line up the bottles and fill with one flower each from your garden.

Grow plants from seed on your windowsills! Even grass seed has become very vogue. (Don’t tell anyone, because I usually shy away from “vogue”, but I really like the grass thing!J)

Above all, invoke your family into the place where you spend the most time. I’ve heard some designers say you should keep your refrigerator clear to prevent clutter, NO MAGNETS! But honestly, what would my kitchen be without my kids drawings stuck all over the door? It wouldn’t be the place I want to spend most of my time. I even have a couple of framed photos of my kids, right on the kitchen counter! So make your kitchen YOUR home, and have fun doing it!
