Busy, Busy, Busy…

February 28th, 2009

…busy, busy, busy, busy, busy…busy, busy, bus… OK, slap me with a wet diaper! Enough of that silliness. Most you know what I’m talking about though, right? That’s us! Busy. Doing what? Stuff. What kinds of stuff? All kinds of stuff. Like what? You name it. Give me an example. Can’t. Why not? Too busy…

OK – that’s it! Blow the danged whistle! We need a Time Out!

Holy Smokes, Folks! We’re going outta control. No, not all of us of course. But there are enough of us pushing our physical, mental and emotional limits that it’s worthwhile talking about it. Let me ask you this. When was the last time you just kicked back and looked at the clouds to see what cartoonish kinds of figures or shapes you could see in them? Or the last time you touched a plant leaf and really thought about how it felt and how amazing it was that it was an actual living thing? Or the last time you strolled leisurely down the road or path and thought about nothing in particular? Or the last time you watched a baby sleep and enjoyed the feeling of being a part of a great creation? Or the last time you leaned back in an easy chair and snoozed – not because you were completely worn out, but just because it seemed like a neat thing to do?

How long has it been? An extremely long time? Never? Hmmm…

Many of us unfortunately, are the proud owners of the skewed assumption that we must always be doing something. OK, for those of you who have a tendency to get overly technical, we are always doing something – even when we’re doing “nothing”. You know what I mean. I’m referring to our obsession with physical and mental (and sometimes emotional) activity. We go to work, do stuff, talk with folks, go home, go to the store, go out to an activity, run errands, pay bills, haul the kids around, fix meals, do yard work, do house work, fix stuff, paint stuff, reorganize stuff, buy more stuff, watch TV, surf the web, and on and on. Even our vacations are so crammed with “doing” that we’re pooped puppies by the time we get back home.

Yeah, I know. I have heard time and time again, “But I just have sooo much to do that I can’t get it all done in a day!” Hmmm (again…). And I think to myself that there are several possible reasons for this comment. This person may be in a survival mode of operation and his/her day is filled to overflowing with more than one job, caring for loved ones and trying to meet the demands of everyday living. This can be tough, but we do what we gotta do. Or this individual may just be a bit disorganized and have a difficult time establishing logical priorities. Or, maybe he/she isn’t really all that busy but for some inner reason would like others to think he/she is. Or maybe this person has a difficult time saying no for a variety of reasons. Or perhaps this individual has become so accustomed to being busy or having some type of auditory input or stimulus that to do otherwise is uncomfortable – again, for a variety of possible reasons.

We all have our individual, special reasons for being busy and admittedly, many of the reasons are completely valid. I’m suggesting however, that none of the reasons are valid enough. Every single one of us needs time to kick back for at least a few minutes each day to recharge our physical, mental and emotional batteries. And the busier we get, the more critical this re-charge becomes.

Most of us know, or have known, people who have succumbed to the Go-Go-Go Syndrome. We have seen everything from burn-outs to complete physical, mental or emotional collapse. Suddenly, the go-go-go has turned into a stop-stop-stop. Everything that seemed to be such a high priority dropped dramatically in its ranking – probably closer to the level it should have been at in the first place.

I think it would be very beneficial if we all made the small effort that it takes to reserve at least fifteen minutes a day just for us. Fifteen minutes for a time out to relax, meditate or just let the old brain cells cool down. Fifteen minutes to regroup and recharge our batteries. Just fifteen minutes. About one percent of our day. OK, considering all the other possible options, it might not be the absolute best fifteen minutes you’ve ever enjoyed in life but it’s still worth doing. Give it a try. You’ll like it…

Buying a Glass Rack: Everything You Need Consider about Aluminum, Stainless Steel &Amp; Carbon Steel Glass Truck Racks

February 27th, 2009

Purchasing a glass transportation vehicle is quite a bit different from owning a different piece of glass handling equipment. As the glass manufacturing industry advances, the handling tools that surrounds it, has too.

The effective, controlled distribution of glass sheets and its related services, designed and produced the literally hundreds of glass truck rack products to make glass transportation easier.

Because of the tremendous volume of options possible, an informed due diligence of your glass jobs individual specifications is very much needed to purchasing a glass truck. Although anyone can get a commercially-available glass rack from the biggest manufacturers, for almost no added expense you get a fully-customized glass rack designed to your exact situation.

Getting to know your requirements in a few ways will help you select the combination of body and chassis that will get the most out of your money.

Remember that bodies should have a life span of two or three chassis. Thinking this far ahead requires a lot of thought due to the unfortunate fact that the rack truck body can only work with a certain chassis arrangement. The chassis type will also dictate major features of the body configuration including ledge width, rack size and payload.

Glass racks usually come in in two or three composition materials: aluminum, stainless steel and carbon steel. Each material has benefits and negatives.

Carbon Steel is the most affordable rack type, however it it may bring with it higher maintenance expenditure to keep it in good shape and clean, which can be a challenge in corrosiveweather conditions.

Aluminum racks are popular for their lightweight density. When fully painted or anodized, it will stay in great shape up to a decade with just minimum maintenance. Aluminum are more expensive and are more troublesome to fix than steel.

Stainless Steel is the best choice for glass workers who value corrosion resistance and endurance. If gauged to the right specs, it can provide a years of low upkeep and durable product life cycle. Due to stainless steels corrosion proof quality, etching the surface for painting is difficult, and therefore the glass rack bodies are not painted. A brushed finish aesthetic is the steel glass racks normal look. Steel is great and its only negative at this point is its expensive investment price tag.

Does The Good Outweigh The Evil?

February 27th, 2009

All of Life’s events have been the result of or the consequence of that event, whether they are good or evil.

Some examples being:

Creation of Adam and Eve whose job it was to watch over God’s creation a.k.a. “The garden of Eden”
First was creation of Adam to oversee the garden. The Consequence being the experience of loneliness; this brought about the, creation of a female companion from the rib of the man, whose roll was to be a helpmate.

The second, the answer to the question, which species would dominate?

Eve eating the Apple… After Adam awakens to find this lovely helpmate, he is soon disillusioned by her eating the one piece of fruit they were forbidden to eat, an apple from the tree of good and evil. Then, she entices him to do like wise. Now one can and should ask what the good was and what was the evil or consequence of this action.

At first glance, we are horrified. How could these chosen ones indulge in such a despicable action knowing full well the consequences? Yet, there they were aware naked an afraid trying to hide from their creator. But when one examines it from the human factor, not the spiritual factor, good can be attributed to this factor. The obvious one our ability to thinks and our free will or ability to choose.

So, might we not conclude, as every action has an equal or better reaction, that for every evil attributed to an act there is at least one good thing or more attributed to it? And more often then not, and at least under certain circumstances, the good far outweighs the evil?

The more I read, not only do I find more subject to write on, I find more sources for their development. And the more i write the more I like myself; it is my fondest hope my readers develop if not the same, similar feelings.

Sales Lessons from Bob Vila

February 26th, 2009

There’s more to what he does than meets the eye

With so many different programs, and reruns and
re-packaging of older programs, we can assume
there are few people on the planet who do not know
about Bob Vila. Starting with the original “This
Ol’ House” programs on PBS in 1979, Bob Vila and
his empire, have grown into a major force in the
Home Improvement Television genre.

The professional salesperson can learn a whole lot
more from Bob Vila than how to screet concrete or
put mud on the drywall.

Bob Vila is a study in brand awareness. Bob is the
brand. The challenge was getting people to
recognize, and ultimately respect Bob Vila, as THE
home improvement expert. Whatever he did before
that first TV program is inconsequential as is
whether or not he can saw a board of drive a nail
(something he does verl little of on his show).

Bob Vila became a household name. Brand awareness
to the highest degree. So high in fact that Sears
asked him to be a spokesperson and that killed his
deal with PBS (his first network gig). Now Bob has
“Home Again with Bob Vila”, “Bob Vila’s Guide to
Historic Homes” and others plus specials, books
and tapes and even “Bob Vila’s Home Design” series
on two CD’s (handsomely packaged, of course).
They are recycling the first PBS shows and calling
them “This Ol’ House Classics”. Bob is a TV
pitchman, too. He sells credit card debt
reduction and every product Sears can come up
with, plus a closet full of books and videos.

This didn’t happen by accident, but by clever
design. The design element continues today, every
time you see him on the tube. How did he do it?
Simple, all he did was tell all the people on TV
to call him by name, over and over. A lot like
subliminal advertising. You don’t realize you are
getting the message. A typical segment of any of
his programs, past or present, might go like this:

Bob: Today on our show, Fred Murtz is going to
show us how to cut a board with a handsaw. Welcome
to our show Fred.

Fred: Thanks, Bob, glad to be here.

Bob: You’ve been cutting boards for a long time

Fred: I sure have Bob. I got my first hand saw at
age seven, from my grandpa. I brought several saws
to show you, Bob.

Bob: Show us how to use that saw (pointing)

Fred: That is a crosscut saw, Bob. It is the
mainstay in most basic construction. Bob, this is
the easiest of all saws to use. You hold it like
this, Bob. And when you begin the movement up and
down, you put your index finger along the side
here, can you see that, Bob? That’s how you cut
straighter Bob, with that little finger pointing
the way.

(and so on.) catching on? Everyone Bob talks with
uses his name repeatedly. If you look at it apart
from the program, you can see that people don’t
really talk that way. Could all his guests be
instructed to use his name in every sentence
possible? Bob never uses their name after the
introduction until the end bit when he thanks the
guest, by name.

So who’s name do we hear, hundreds of times in a
program? Bob Vila! It didn’t take long for him to
be recognized as consummate hammer and nails guru.
Better yet, he doesn’t do any of the work on his
shows, he just gets people to use his name while
they do it all.

How does this relate to sales you ask? Easy, you
can use the Bob Vila approach on your customers.
Use their name at every opportunity. Practice
until you can use it in every third sentence. It
will create an instant rapport. The more you can
use the customer’s name, the more you can build
trust and confidence with that person.

Think about the many times you have watched Bob on
TV and not noticed how the guests use his name
over and over. The majority of people don’t see it
until someone (like me in this article) points it
out. Most folks never see the hidden meaning
there, or recognize the unusual sentence
structure. You can use name-infected sentences in
any conversation, to your advantage, every time.
They work, beautifully. And they never offend
(“Hey, Fred, would you mind not using my name so
much, I’m sorta sensitive!”).

The next time you talk with a customer, remember
what Bob Vila did and you, too, can be the most
respected person in your field.

Windows Hosting versus Linux Hosting – Which is right for you?

February 25th, 2009

There are literally hundreds of thousands of web hosting companies out there. Many of these companies offer both Windows hosting and Linux hosting plans. Windows plans usually cost more because of the license costs imposed by Microsoft. Knowing this, how can you know when you need Windows hosting and when Linux hosting will work just as well or better? Keep reading to find out.

Windows operating systems are found on something like 95% of all personal computers in the world. With such a total dominance, Microsoft Windows is top of mind to most new people looking for web hosting.

In the web server world though, Windows based servers are behind less than 20% of all websites on the internet. This is according to the latest web server survey from securityspace.com. By choosing a Linux hosting plan, you will find yourself in good company.

When do you have to use Windows Hosting?

1. .NET technologies including ASP.net are not available on Linux platforms. If you have a website built with Microsoft .NET technologies you will have to choose a Windows hosting plan. In fact, if you need ASP without .NET features, most Linux hosting plans do not offer support for it.

2. Access Databases are only available with a Windows hosting plan. Access runs on a Microsoft Windows platform and cannot run on a Linux Operating system.

3. MSSQL is an enterprise class database put out by Microsoft. If you need an enterprise class database there are some alternatives that run on a Linux platform but if you need Microsoft’s MSSQL database, a Windows hosting plan will have to be your choice.

4. If you are using Microsoft’s Sharepoint services like some of the Sharepoint features found in Frontpage 2003, a Windows Hosting plan is your only choice.

What is the advantage to choosing Linux Hosting?

All the major services you need to run an enterprise class website are available on Linux based systems for free. Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP are being used together to provide the infrastructure behind some of the most traffic intensive sites on the internet.

PHP runs better on a Linux server than on a Windows server. Having said that, unless you are putting a heavy load on your PHP scripts, this will not be noticable.

In general, Linux hosting plans are at least 20% cheaper than Windows hosting plans. If you don’t need any of the features mentioned above, Linux hosting is a fine choice for your needs.

For Microsoft specific technologies, Windows hosting plans are usually your best bet. For everthing else, Linux hosting plans will usually do quite well. With the cost savings usually found with Linux hosting plans, Linux hosting is usually the right choice for you.

Quality Info to Repair Bad Credit

February 25th, 2009

Bad credit can be damaging to your financial standing, in that it gives you a negative influence; it can also, at times, be trouble for you if you purchase on credit or get a loan. A bad credit rating also results in a high fee being levied, thus extending the overall debt.
In such cases, people generally resort to credit repair services, and usually end up paying high service charges to settle bad credit. There are other ways to repair bad credit; and they happen to be easy as well as free.

To start with, find out the exact cause of your bad credit. It is not feasible to repair bad credit until you’re completely familiar with the reason you got into it. A few likely causes for this situation could be a posteponed repayment of a loan; maybe some sudden events such as medical bills, job difficulties, etc.

Once you’ve found out the base cause to your problem, work your way towards the centre and focus on a solution that’s practical and effective. Get an idea of your present-day financial status by checking your recent credit reports. Make sure you’re keeping track of current credits and financial dealings. Use the latest statements from your creditors or yearly credit reports to appraise your financial position.

To actually fix your bad credit and get your financial status back in a sound standing, you need to start supervising your expenses and plan your lifestyle. Don’t delay paying your bills. If you can, pay them as soon as they arrive. This will avoid held up payment charges, if in case an sudden situation comes up and obstructs you from paying your expenses on time. Level down your credit card routine as much as you can. To some, this may sound absurd, but if you look back, you’ll understand that the ancient people lived a better life than we do today, and they did not use credit cards. Uniformity in bill payments is the crucial point here. Gradually pay up all your credit bills and you’ll finally repair your financial status.

People often suggest that you talk to your creditors. If you pull the right strings and bargain wisely, you could get discounts, instead of overcharges. Be confident and precautious. While negotiating with your creditors is not a surefire way of improving bad credit, it surely can be efficient.

Prevention is the best strategy. Instead of having to face bad credit, why not prevent it in the first place? Pay your bills on time, do not put off credit payments, and don’t use your credit card for each and every payment. However, if you do fall into a bad credit position, then abide by the tips above. Bad credit can at times impair your social profile and hinder access to loans on convenient terms, mortgages, etc.

Tesco Want Your Old Phones

February 20th, 2009

With the advent of technology, the telephone system has gained immense popularity. Today, more than forty million handsets are used all over the UK but very few of them are recycled for a useful purpose at the end of their life. A declaration regarding this issue will be made today. Presence of useful materials in the manufacture of handsets like gold and palladium can be extracted and recycled to be used in another device for a functional purpose.

The company, Tesco has been initializing the process of recycling of waste products and utilizing them for a beneficial function. The major portion of earnings would be contributed for a social purpose by donation to the Alzheimer’s Society, Cystic Fibrosis Trust and NCH.

“XS Tronics” are working with the principle of recycling and had made a commitment of recycling almost a million of handsets in its initial year. Other recycle based companies like Mazumamobile are also working for the same purpose.

Ben Shaw commented that the awareness for recycling of products should be spread amongst all and retailers should learn the technique to increase the pace of recycling. The director of NCH stated that recycling should be considered as an important solution to the green issues and it enhances the qualities of environmental conditions.
