June 15th, 2009Texas Holdem is, as Doyle Brunson, one of poker’s living legends, called it – “The Cadillac of poker”. Playing this poker variation players can make use of strategies, skills and luck to win the game.
It is thought that Texas Hold’em began in the early Twentieth century in Robstown, Texas. Over years of refinement, the game has become much easier to play and people can effortlessly start learning the game.
Pretty much all the web-based poker rooms offer Texas Hold’em poker. The game includes from two to eleven players at a time and blinds (bets) are rotated around the table.
Two kinds of blinds are used in the game : namely big blind and small blind. The big blind takes the minimum bet on the table and the small blind uses half the amount of the bigger blind. A game begins when the players put money into the pot.
Two cards are then dealt face down to all players. After this, the betting starts by the player on the left of the player who placed the money for the blind. Every player is required to bet on his turn and he can also call or raise at his turn, if he feels the need.
When the first betting round is over, the first card from the deck is cast aside by the dealer to prevent any kind of cheating.
Then, the next three cards are put on the table face up – this is known as the Flop. After the Flop, the next betting round is started by the player to the dealer’s left.
At the end of this round of betting, the fourth community card is dealt face-up – this is often called Fourth Street. Similarly, Fifth Street is also carried out for the final showdown, as in total five community cards are shown as face up.
The last betting round is played after the Fifth Street and the players have to use the combination of seven cards, that is, two hole cards and five community cards. The winner of the game is the one who holds the best five card poker hand.
