An Overview of Internet Gambling in Czech Republic

July 9th, 2008

Some people would call Czech Republic as the paradise of gaming. But recent findings pointed out that it only ranked as the 15th country in all European countries to be in the list with high expenditures on betting and lottery. It was instead behind other European countries such as Austria, Greece, and Ireland. So why has internet gaming been disclosed like a bad apple? Has it brought danger to the Czech community? How could the Czech government prevent the continuous illegal operations of online gaming? All these and more are probably hounding the mind of every citizen. There is a huge political responsibility affixed in allowing or legalizing online gaming. It is a decision that has to be clearly defined of its rules, motives, and possible effects to Czech culture. If the government permits online gaming to legally operate, it follows that rules are to be set for regulation of the industry. As reported in playsportal.net Internet Betting and bookmakers site, such rules include monitoring the age of the gamblers to protect the youth in engaging in the industry. Upon observation by many business operators, the real problem and danger to Czech community is the presence of illegal foreign operators of online gaming. They conduct business without securing proper and legal documents to operate. And the sad fact is that these kinds of illegal activities have been around for sometime now. Because of the lack of regulations, it becomes an easy target for the younger generation or the students. Unlike in other European nations, they have imposed very strict laws to regulate the internet gambling. Some laws and actions to prevent it are blocking the websites, restriction on the use of these sites, regulating financial transactions among others.
