BSkyB Reports More Consumers Opting for Bundled Deal

May 8th, 2009

BSkyB now boasts of a subscriber base of 2.085 million up by 130,000 in the latest quarter. This growth was however lesser than what the company experienced in the same quarter last year, when it added about 229,000 new customers. This is consistent with what the analysts were expecting, as the economy as a whole is reeling under the effects of recession.

The company has been able to get its strategy right by offering bundled deals, which offer all three services of the company – telephone, Sky TV, and broadband. This has been a major hit with the customers with some of the other best broadband providers doing there most to offer competing deals.

1.4 million BSkyB customers are now subscribed to a bundled package, against 0.8 million such customers at the end of the third quarter last year. This means that 15% of the company’s customers are now availing of this facility.

According to Jeremy Darroch, chief executive of BSkyB, the increase in the number of people opting for bundled deals shows that consumers are trying to save on their household bills without compromising on quality.

BSkyB has shown that it has the ability to survive when the times are tough, and this is not good news for its competitors, who may not be able to offer the wide array of services that the company provides to its subscribers.
