In Light of the down Turn Numerous Ski Businesses Will Be Cutting down Their Number of Luxury Catered Chalets

August 11th, 2009

Because of the depression snowboarding reservations went down last season.

This is despite of good pre season sales coupled with first class skiing.

These reductions in snowboarders comes after 6 years of sequential growth within the skiing industry, and the numbers contracted from 1.2 million in 2008 to 950000 last winter.

Perhaps due to holiday makers giving the season a miss, while other vacationers who would normally have 2 skiing vacations, merely took the one.

Sales for the independent travel sector fell by 15% with several low cost airlines slashing the no. of airplanes to certain destinations.

Some tour operators also saw their numbers going down by 15%.

All the same, the leading companies market share continued at just over a healthy 70% and France carried on as the most popular skiing destination with 37% of skiing holidays.

Due to this many tour operators lowered the no. of luxury ski chalets they rent this year.

The catered chalet markets will witness a fall in numbers due to the fact that catered ski chalets cost more for the tour operator in terms of chefs and rental if it is not occupied.

It seems unlikely that we shall benefit from the type of special offers that were up for grabs last year.

Although prices are likely to increase, they probably won’t go up much.
